Scope and Content

The collection includes material related to a wide range of campus events, spanning the first graduation ceremony in 1963 to the present day. The material documents many aspects of college life including graduation and awards ceremonies, inaugurations, orientations and convocations, dedications and groundbreaking ceremonies, student group events, employee appreciation events, academic showcases, and community events. Programs make up the bulk of the collections, while planning documents, invitations, mailing lists, speeches, advertisements, and payment information are also included in some files.

Campus events require involvement from nearly every department and additional information may be found throughout the Archives' holdings.

The majority of our campus-wide graduation programs have been digitized and are available online. You can find the links here, or by going to the main Archives homepage and navigating to 'Explore the Collections', then 'Digital Collections'.

Series Description & Contents

Scope and Contents

This series includes programs as well as planning documents, invitations, press releases, news clippings, lists of graduates, biographical information on the graduation speaker, copies of speeches, and correspondence related to graduation and pinning ceremonies held by a variety of departments. Curriculum, Continuing Education, Adult Basic Life Skills, and College & Career Readiness ceremonies are held first in chronological order, followed by departmental ceremonies. These programs sometimes held joint ceremonies, while in other years they were separate.

The date listed indicates the date that the ceremony was held. Planning documents and correspondence may include a wider date range.

The title of each folder reflects the title of the program at the time of the ceremony. In 2013, the Adult High School / GED program was renamed "College and Career Readiness". Today, that program also includes Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Prior to 2016, Adult Basic Life-Skills Education (ABLE) was referred to as Compensatory Education (CE).

Many of our graduation programs have been digitized and are available online. You can find the links here, or by going to the main Archives homepage and navigating to 'Explore the Collections', then 'Digital Collections'.

This series includes documents from student exhibitions, showcases, and other academic events.

Promotional material from Interior Design Showcases is heavily represented. RCC's interior design program was established in 1967 and the Showcase became a cornerstone of the program in the 1970s. Students worked in teams to redesign a house on a limited budget. These projects often involved other departments assisting in the renovations, including electrical and floriculture students. Tickets were sold for public viewing, and proceeds were used to fund the following year's project.
