OENC: Open Education North Carolina

Open Education North Carolina is an initiative that aims to reduce the cost of higher education for North Carolina students by providing free, open textbooks for 30 of the most frequently taught courses across North Carolina’s 2- and 4-year colleges and universities.

The initiative is coordinated by an OER Program Librarian employed by NC LIVE and is overseen by an OER Advisory Committee (opens in a new window) of faculty, administrators, and librarians from around the state.

OENC Courses for Adoption
List of courses that will be curated and open for adoption; includes the standardized course IDs for UNC and NC Community College systems.
OENC Faculty Workshops
NC LIVE is holding sessions around the state to give faculty, instructors, and the library community an introduction to open education in general and the Open Education North Carolina initiative specifically. Attendees will leave with an actionable understanding of the initiative, resources available to them for promotion and adoption, and readiness to apply for a grant.
Eligibility & Application
NC LIVE is now accepting grant applications from faculty and instructors who are committed to adopting an open textbook for their course(s) in place of a commercial textbook.
